Themes & Variations was founded to meet the demand for professional symphonic performances and recordings of music primarily composed for motion pictures from 1933 to the present day. All of the works in the rental library were faithfully reconstructed from the original sketches and/or orchestrations. Some of the composers whose works are represented in the catalog are Sir Malcolm Arnold, John Addison, John Barry, Richard Rodney Bennett, Elmer Bernstein, Bruce Broughton, Ernest Gold, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, Lee Holdridge, James Horner, Maurice Jarre, Henry Mancini, Randy Newman, Basil Poledouris, David Rose, Nino Rota, Miklos Rozsa, Max Steiner, Dimitri Tiomkin, Franz Waxman, Roy Webb and Victor Young. Themes & Variations has served as a consultant to Decca, Koch, Nonesuch, Philips Classics, RCA, Silva Screen, Sony, Telarc and Varese Sarabande in the preparation of recording projects as well as representing Paramount Pictures music subsidiary Famous Music Publishing Companies to the symphonic and concert market. The Godfather, Indiana Jones and Star Trek are among the frequently programmed compositions in this library. The tremendous popularity recent Academy Award winning film scores The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, Finding Neverland and Elmer Bernstein's Far From Heaven as well as Philip Glass' The Hours have been some of the latest additions to the largest representative of music from the movies and television. Themes & Variations serves orchestras and recording companies throughout the world. Spider-Man, Only You, Goldfinger, Emma, and The Mask of Zorro, are among the many film scores, now represented by Themes and Variations, from the Columbia Pictures (Sony) library. Plans for 2005-2006 include the reconstructions and new recordings of film and concert music by Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, Dimitri Tiomkin and Franz Waxman.
